7-15 news round-up: ‘Ted Lasso’ trailer, Apple News+, promo, more

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, we’ll frequently offer a wrap-up of news items you should check out. First up: Apple has released the official trailer for upcoming comedy series “Ted Lasso,” which will be available to stream on Apple TV+ starting August 14.

As noted by 9to5Mac, beginning later this week, Verizon and Apple will partner on a new promotion for Apple News+. Any iPad activated through Verizon will qualify for a free six-month subscription to the $9.99/month news streaming service.

Peacock, NBCUniversal’s new streaming service, will officially launch today. It offers an ad-supported free tier and an ad-supported premium tier for $4.99/month, serving no more than five minutes of advertising per hour. An ad-free version of the premium tier is also available for $9.99/month. Peacock is available on Apple devices including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD.

New EU regulation came into play at the start of the week that applies to digital storefronts, most notably Apple and Google’s for mobile devices. The new regulations “significantly strengthen the rights of those selling through such marketplaces,” according to MCV Develop.

The blog Aggiornamenti Lumia suggests that an app from Apple is “coming soon” to the Microsoft Store, although there’s no clue as to what it might be.

The upcoming “iPhones 12” could ship with a new Lightning to USB-C cable that includes a braided fabric design, according to leaked photos from ChargerLAB that  have surfaced on Weibo.

The Los Angeles Metro says its transit cards will support Apple Pay integration later this year.
