7-10 news round-up: Epic iOS app, Fujifilm software, Apple UK taxes, more

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, we’ll frequently offer a wrap-up of news items you should check out.

° A newly released iOS app from Epic Games lets developers record facial expressions that can be imported directly into the Unreal Engine, using little more than an iPhone’s front-facing camera, reports The Verge.. The Live Link Face app, which is available to download now from the App Store, can stream this facial animation data in real time directly onto characters in Unreal Engine, which Epic hopes will make facial capture “easier and more accessible” for creators.

° Fujifilm has released its software for Mac that enables its X-series mirrorless cameras to be used as webcams

° Apple makes £1.4 billion annually but avoids almost all tax on UK sales, with a deferred payment of just £6.2 million, according to Inews.

° The Federal Circuit has denied notorious parent troll Uniloc a chance to narrow requests to seal information or redact in an infringement dispute with Apple, according to AppleInsider.

° In a special MacVoices Live session, Macworld All-Star Band members Bryan Chaffin, Dave Hamilton, Bob LeVitus, and Duane Straub, along with production team members Wally Cherwinski and Skylar Hamilton, talk about their newest project, a lockdown video that featured the entire band, including Chris Breen, Paul Kent and Chuck La Tournous, singing and recoding remotely. Part 1 covers how it started with a message from a fan and how it all came together.
