Ipsita Dasgupta to run Apple services in India

Apple has appointed Ipsita Dasgupta as the country manager of India to head its services that includes its app stores, Apple Music, iCloud, and Apple TV+, reports HerStory.

The former head of strategy and new ventures at India’s largest over-the-top platform Hotstar, she succeeds Khushboo Ponwar who now heads Apple in the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa.

Dasgupta has a MBA from Harvard Business School. She’s worked at IBM, Cisco, and GE. Ashish Chowdhary, managing director of Apple India, will continue to head sales and devices operations in the country.

Dasgupta’s hiring comes at a time when the company is looking to build its streaming and app businesses as a revenue driver in the country with localized content. According to the India Economic Times, the tech giant has plans to acquire licenses for Indian content and original production for video streaming service Apple TV+ and for Apple Music, and has priced its services aggressively in the country.
