‘Apple Glasses’ may encourage wearers to re-position their heads for more comfort

The long-rumored “Apple Glasses” — an augmented reality (AR)/virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) — may sport features that encourage a wearer to re-position his/her head for more comfortable use. Apple has filed for a patent (number 20200103962) for “application placement based on head position.

Such a device will arrive this year, next year, 2021, or 2022, depending on which rumor you believe. It may or may not have to be tethered to an iPhone to work. Other rumors say that Apple Glasses could have a custom-build Apple chip and a dedicated operating system dubbed “rOS” for “reality operating system.”

The patent filing relates to determining when the head position of a user viewing user interfaces in a computer-generated reality environment isn’t in a comfortable and/or ergonomic position and repositioning the displayed user interface so that the user will reposition her/his head to view the user interface at a more comfortable and/or ergonomic head position.
