Production of Apple TV+’s ‘Shantaram’ series put on hold

Production of Apple TV+’s Charlie Hunnam-starring “Shantaram” has been halted in Australia due to a writing backlog, reports Variety

Showrunner and high-profile screenwriter Eric Warren Singer (“Top Gun: Maverick,” “American Hustle”) hasn’t yet completed all the necessary scripts and will now leave the show, the article adds. Although a new showrunner is expected to be hired soon, filming is unlikely to resume for several months while the remaining episodes are written, says Variety

Hunnam is an actor and model perhaps best known for playing Jackson “Jax” Teller in the FX drama series, Sons of Anarchy. He’s also appeared in the movies Nicholas Nickleby, Pacific Rim, The Lost City of Z, and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.

The Apple TV+ series is based on Gregory David Robert’s 2003 novel that tells the story of Lin, a man on the run from an Australian prison looking to get lost in the teeming city of Bombay. Cut off from family and friends by distance and fate, he finds a new life in the slums, bars and underworld of India. The novel has been published in 39 languages in 42 territories worldwide and sold six million copies.
