A California federal judge who had previously found internet call-routing patents held by Voip-Pal.com too generalized and abstract has made a similar ruling in two cases in which the communications company had accused Apple and Amazon of infringing similar intellectual property, reports Law360 (a subscription is required to read the entire article).
Voip-Pal has sued Apple multiple times, claiming the tech giant and others infringe a collection of four voice over IP patents with the iMessages, FaceTime, and Wi-Fi Calling functions. In return, Apple pressed for sanctions against the communications company.
VoIP-Pal is a publicly traded corporation that acquired Digifonica International Limited in 2013 in order to fund, co-develop and complete Digifonica’s suite of patents. Digifonica purportedly operationalized and tested its suite of software solutions with applications in five core areas of Internet connectivity: Routing, Billing and Rating; Lawful Intercept; Short Number Dialing (Enhanced 911) Mobile Gateway; and Uninterrupted Transmission.
