A look at five elago cases for the new iPhones

Elago makes some of the most affordable iPhone cases around, including models for the new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

The $12.99 Hybrid Case — amiable in clear and four neon hues — covers the whole back part of the iPhone, including the bottom and offers full access to all the smartphone’s buttons. Most of the case is hard, while the bottom and button covers are made from light, smooth, and flexible TPU material.

This combination makes the Hybrid both tough and easy to slip on and off. What’s more, the raised lip helps protect the display and camera against the scratches from direct surface contact. That’s not as safe as a full screen protector, but it’s a nice feature.

The $12.99 Slim Fit Strap Case, which is slim and lightweight, offers less protection than the Hybrid, but will appeal to those who like a “minimalist” case. It’s matte finish supposedly ensures an anti-slip grip. It does so to an extent, but isn’t as grippable as the next case I’ll look at.

What helps with the Slim Fit Strap Case’s productivity is its attachable and removable strap and a button. You can hang the strap on your wrist. That will protect the iPhone from falls, but not necessarily from dings or bangs against objects if it’s swinging freely.

However, like the Hybrid, the Slim Fit Strap Case has a raised lip to protect the display and camera, while fully covered buttons add to the safety features. Also, it’s compatible with wireless charging.

The $14.99 Silicon Case is my second favorite of the elago cases. It’s liquid silicon-based outer wall has a nice, soft feeling that’s very grippable. Its anti-fingerprint and dust resistant features make it relatively easy to keep clean.

The Silicon Case is also quite protective for a soft case thanks to its three-tier structure of liquid silicone, hard material, and soft, interior, microfiber lining. The latter helps prevent scratches and helps protect your iPhone.

The Silicon Case covers the entire phone except for the screen, while cut-outs allow quick access to all button. Like the other elago cases, it has the raised lip feature.

So does the $18.99 Sand Case, my favorite of the elago cases I tested. It’s available in a variety of designs and colors made of sand and oil.

When you move the case, the sand/oil mixture “flows” up and down the case. Pretty cool. Plus, you can customize it by having one big word appear on the cover.

The Sand Case’s full coverage design of hard material and a soft TPU bumper wraps the screen on all sides and even prevents the buttons from getting wet (though note the case is water resistant, not waterproof). You can also add an (optional) strap.
