Notable apps and updates, Sept. 16-21

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are this week’s picks.

macOS

Zevrix Solutions has announced Output Factory Server 2.2, a feature update to the company’s output automation solution for Adobe InDesign.

The app automates printing and exporting from InDesign by processing files from hot folders. Output Factory Server offers layer versioning, preflighting, email notifications, PDF security presets, custom scripts and more. Version 2.2 adds new variable tokens that lets users insert the names of InDesign alternate layouts and sections into the output file names.

Output Factory Server can be purchased from the Zevrix website for $699.95. A demo is available for download. The upgrade to version 2 is $350 for the licensed users of Output Factory Server 1.x and BatchOutput Server. Output Factory Server requires macOS 10.7-10.14 and Adobe InDesign CS5-CC 2019.

BinaryFruit has rolled out DriveDx 1.8.3, an update to its Mac solution for SSD and HDD health diagnostics and monitoring.

The tool measures the overall health of both SSD and HDD drives. Version 1.8.3 is optimized for the upcoming macOS Catalina.

DriveDx requires macOS 10.6.8 or newer. Pricing starts at $19.99 for a personal license. A demo is available for download.

Version 7.4 of Eltima Software’s Elmedia Player has been released, featuring an internal browser improvement.

This option provides users with the opportunity to watch videos directly from the app. Along with it, features such as the support of Flash Video have been preserved for better playback experience.

Elmedia Player is a Flash player for macOS that supports both FLV and SWF formats. It’s is available in two versions: free and pro. The free version includes essential functionality for media files playback. Offering advanced downloading and streaming options, the pro version is priced at $19.95.

iOS

Biosoftworld Game Studios has launched Time Squad: Alpha Strike! 1.0.1, the company’s new space shooting game developed exclusively for iOS devices. It’s free, but does offer in-app purchases.

It’s the 21st century and an elite squadron of advanced combat earth spaceships is coming back through space and time in order to rescue Earth from a catastrophic alien invasion. Players pilot one of the front-end spacecraft in three different vast settings: solar system, earth’s orbit and finally in a ground attack against aliens.
