Forget the AirPower; mophie’s wireless charging solutions step up to the plate

I had really looked forward to Apple’s AirPower wireless charger, which turned out to be vaporware. However, mophie has stepped up to the plate with its 3-in-1 Wireless Charger and Dual Wireless Charging Pad. They’re $139.95 and $79.95, but I prefer the former.

Both of mophie’s new wireless charging pads are engineered to safely deliver up to 7.5W of power to any Qi-enabled iPhone or AirPods. Simply place the wireless device on the pads and charging begins immediately. SRP $79.95)

The 3-in-1 Wireless Charger charges an iPhone, AirPods, and an Apple Watch from one central location, which is why I prefer it. The mophie Dual Wireless Charging Pad charges any compatible iPhone and AirPods, while an extra USB-A port allows a third USB device such as an Apple Watch to be charged simultaneously.

To ensure a seamless charging experience for all three devices, the 3-in-1 Wireless Charger features a dedicated cavity for AirPods, and an integrated charging stand for an Apple Watch that holds it at the ideal angle for Nightstand Mode. In Nightstand Mode, the smartwatch displays the date and time, along with the remaining charge. If you set an alarm, it also appears on the watch face.

The 3-in-1 Wireless Charger has rounded corners and a sleek glass top, so it’s a very handsome accessory.

You can put a pair of AirPods in a wireless charging sleeve onto one side of the long pad (there’s an indentation in which it sites) and have room for an iPhone on the other side. The Apple Watch has its own integrated MFi-certified Apple Watch charging puck. (Note that the charger doesn’t have USB ports for cable charging.) Wireless charging provided a full charge to my iPhone XS Max in about five hours. The charger can power up an Apple smartphone in a case up to 3mm thick.

The 3-in-1 Wireless Charger comes with an AC adapter and two international adapters. Its 9.38 ounces of weight help prevent it from sliding around on your desk.

Its compatible with all AirPods with a wireless charging case, all versions of the Apple Watch (though you’ll probably have to remove a protective case if you have one installed), iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 8, and, hopefully, the iPhone 11 devices that will be announced tomorrow.

The 3-in-1 Wireless Charger isn’t inexpensive at $139.95. However, I find it worth the money since it provides a single device that can charge my Apple Watch, AirPods, and iPhone XS Max. And it seems to be a hit, as it’s backordered — at least as I was writing this review.

Apple World Today Rating (Out Of 5 Stars): ★★★★★

(By the way, you may also wish to compare the specs on the the device to the equally sweet Nomad Base Station Apple Watch Edition that also costs $19.95.)
