‘El Gato Negro’ coming to Apple TV+

Robert Rodriguez and Diego Boneta are teaming up for El Gato Negro, an adaptation of a Mexican comic book being set up at Apple TV+ as a series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rodriguez is an American filmmaker, score composer, cinematographer, film editor, and visual effects supervisor behind such movies as Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Sin City, and Alita: Battle Angel. He shoots, edits, produces, and scores many of his films in Mexico and his home state, Texas.

Diego Andrés González Boneta is a Mexican singer and actor. Among his works are the musical film Rock of Ages (2012) and the biographical series Luis Miguel.

El Gato Negro is the name of two fictional American comic book superheroes created by Richard Dominguez and featured in the Azteca Productions’ Universe. 

Rodriguez will direct and exec produce Gato with Boneta starring and also exec producing via his company Three Amigos. 

Apple TV+ will launch Nov. 1 at $4.99/month (or free for a year if you buy a new Mac, iPhone, or iPad).
