Well, there’s (kinda) good news about the revamped MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pros announced today. As noted by MacRumors, they’ll sport the same third-generation butterfly keyboard design with an updated material as the higher-end 2019 MacBook Pro models introduced in May.
Apple says there’s only been a handful of problems with the butterfly keyboards that debuted on laptops about four years ago (others disagree with the tech giant on that point). And there have been two updates to the keyboard with the 2019 MacBook Pros supposedly providing the best version yet.
Still, the new Mac laptops still have a butterfly keyboard. And, as reported by 9to5Mac, they’re eligible for free keyboard repairs if you’re having problems.
Apple says it’s determined that a small percentage of the keyboards in certain MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models may exhibit one or more of the following behaviors:
Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly;
Letters or characters do not appear;
Key(s) feel “sticky” or do not respond in a consistent manner.
Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will service eligible MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro keyboards, free of charge. The type of service will be determined after the keyboard is examined and may involve the replacement of one or more keys or the whole keyboard.
