Notable apps and updates, June 24-29

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are this week’s picks.

macOS

Corel has debuted Painter 2020, the latest version of its digital painting software for macOS and Windows. 

According to the folks at Corel, it accelerates performance across virtually any system, while delivering a streamlined workflow, all-new brushes, enhanced color selection, and more. Painter 2020 is available in English, French, German, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese for $429. Registered owners of any previous version can purchase for the upgrade price of $229.

Hyperbolic Software has launched Umbrella, a duplicate prevention utility for macOS. 

Once a source is added, it monitors the folder content and reports any duplicates the moment they’re created. Duplicates are automatically marked for fast removal.

Umbrella requires macOS 10.14 or higher. It costs $19.99. A demo is available for download.

Zevrix Solutions has announced LinkOptimizer 5.2.24, a maintenance update to company’s workflow automation tool for Adobe InDesign. 

LinkOptimizer lets users automatically scale and crop images to their InDesign dimensions at specified target resolution, as well as convert image formats and colors, thus helping designers save disk space and reduce production costs. The new version fixes an error in which the option to merge visible layers in Photoshop wasn’t executed under some rare conditions.

LinkOptimizer can be purchased from the Zevrix website for $259.95; there’s a “lite” version for $179.95). A demo is available for download. Version 5.2.24 is a free update for LinkOptimizer 5.x users and $130 to upgrade from previous versions. LinkOptimizer requires macOS 10.7-10.14 and Adobe InDesign / Photoshop CS5-CC 2019.

Mellel has released Mellel 4.2, an update to its word processor. The new version introduces a completely re-written tables feature, enabling writers to make use of a series of advanced table features such as table styles, formulas, headers and footers, repeating headers, and more.

Mellel 4.2 comes in versions for the Mac and iPad. It costs $49 and the license includes two years of free updates. A demo is available for download.

iOS

Wave Digital has launched Les Verbes, a free French conjugation verb app. Targeted at intermediate French language students, Les Verbes focuses on the 30 most common verbs and tenses necessary to converse fluently.

The app provides short daily quizzes to test your knowledge. According to the folks at Wave Digital, just two minutes per day is all it takes “to master the most commonly used verbs and improve the fluidity of your French conversations.”
