Another day, another lawsuit. As noted by AppleInsider, a company called Red Rock Analytics is suing Apple for patent infringement.
The lawsuit claims the tech giant infringes on its patent (number 7,346,313) for transceiver tech in Wi-Fi chips. Red Rock is asking for an injunction against further infringement, along with attorney fees and damage compensation, including pre- and post-judgment interest.
I was unable to find any info about Red Rock Analytics, except that the company has also sued Samsung for patent infringement. I’m thinking the company may be a “patent troll.”
A “patent troll” is an individual or an organization that purchases and holds patents for unscrupulous purposes such as stifling competition or launching patent infringement suits. In legal terms, a patent troll is a type of non-practicing entity: someone who holds a patent but is not involved in the design or manufacture of any product or process associated with that patent.
