Notable apps and updates, March 18-2

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are this week’s picks.

macOS

Moth Software has announced Mail Archiver X 5.0 for macOS, a feature update to their app designed as a companion to a user’s email application.

It allows consolidation, archiving, and permanent storage of emails. Emails may be saved in the application’s native database format, or in Evernote, Filemaker, PDF, mbox, or Text. Version 5.0 adds support for encrypting archives and Mojave’s DarkMode. Also, archiving is now faster.

Mail Archiver X 5.0 works with: any version of Apple Mail; Microsoft Entourage: 12; Postbox: 1.0 or higher; Microsoft Outlook: 14.0 or higher; CTM Development Powermail: 5.1 or higher; and Mozilla Thunderbird: 3.0 or higher. It costs $44.95 and is available directly from Moth Software. Users who bought a license for the software after Feb. 1, 2018, can get version 5.0 for 50% off. A demo is available for download.

Boinx Software has unleashed Mouseposé 4 for Mac, an update of the mouse pointer highlighting tool (aka “virtual laserpointer”) for everyone doing demos at tradeshows, presentations, trainings and screencasts, or those individuals with huge and high resolution displays.

The new version requires macOS Mojave and provides support for full screen mode, PowerPoint and Keynote presentations. Also, it’s been completely rewritten in Apple’s Swift language.

Mouseposé 4 is currently available exclusively through the Boinx Software web site at http://boinx.com/mousepose for $9.99 per year. It requires macOS Mojave.

Ergonis Software has rolled out PopChar X 8.8, an update of the company’s tool for finding and inserting special characters and exploring fonts.

PopChar X simplifies the typing of unusual characters without having to remember keyboard combinations. Version 8.8 offers the option to define the desired number of lines in the section of recently used characters. PopChar now also supports font-specific Unicode descriptions for several symbol fonts, such as FontAwesome, Material Icons, Webdings, Wingdings, and more, and informs about the total number of available Unicode characters in the About window.

PopChar X 8.8 requires macOS 10.6 or later. It can be purchased at the Ergonis Software website for $29.99 for an individual license and $49.99 for a family license (up to five Macs). The upgrade to PopChar X 8.6 is free for anyone who purchased a license for PopChar X 8.0 or for PopChar X 7.x on or after Sept. 1, 2016. Upgrade paths are available for owners of older licenses.

GeekSuit has released Client Folder Maker 5.0, a feature update to their folder creation and management utility for macOS.

It allows anyone to set up a hierarchy of folders once, then instantly re-create that hierarchy in any specified folder with just a few clicks of the mouse. Users can activate any chosen preset via a Menu Item, Keyboard Shortcut, the Services Menu or even a new Finder Extension.

With version 5.0, the Archive Folder is now set at the Preset level (instead of globally). Now, each Preset can have its own Archive Folder set, where newly created Hierarchies will go. Or the user can merely choose their Desktop as their Archive Folder. Client Folder Maker 5.0 also offers a resizable and modern window, a preset-specific archive folder, custom icon & label color for the root folders, a new date variable, and more.

The app requires macOS 10.8.5 or later and costs $4.99. It’s available at the Mac App Store in the Productivity section. A demo is available for download.
