Apple acquires Laserlike, a machine learning startup

Apple has scooped up Laserlike, a small Silicon Valley-based machine learning startup, reports The Information. Terms of the acquisition haven’t been disclosed, but the deal was almost certainly done with an eye toward improving Siri.

The four-year-old startup was founded by three former Google engineers, Anand Shukla, Srinivasan Venkatachary and Steven Baker. Laserlike had built a smartphone app (pictured, but no longer available) that let users follow topics in which they were interested.

On its website Laserlike says it’s built a web scale content search, discovery and personalization platform using advanced machine learning. The company says its content search “brings you the full perspective in a feed you can control.”
