News round-up: TSMC expected to land the first Apple orders for 2020 iPhones (and more news)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out. 

TSMC is expected to secure the first 5nm chip (likely the “A14”) orders from Apple for the 2020 iPhones. The expressed previously optimism about its performance in 2020 and 2021, when 5G and other emerging technologies mature, according to DigiTimes.

Apple CEO Tim Cook will address graduates of Stanford University at the school’s 2019 commencement ceremony on June 16, the university says in a press release.



The Apple Watch  helped save the life of a man in Bothell, Washington. The new technology recently proved itself with a Bothell man who had a history of a-fib, according to KIRO 7.

AppleInsider reports that Adobe has issued an update for Premiere Pro, its video editing suite, solving a glitch that in some cases destroyed the internal speakers of MacBook Pros. The update is being pushed out through Adobe’s Creative Cloud service.

According to public permits filed with the City of Dallas — as noted by 9to5Mac — Apple has secured a tenant location in the Galleria Dallas, a large shopping center less than 10 miles from Dallas Love Field airport. 

A new investigative report from The Wall Street Journal today looks into the controversial practice of popular third-party iOS and Android apps sending very personal user data to Facebook.

The latest “5 Questions” episode of MacVoices features a discussion with John Martellaro of The Mac Observer. He talks about what he uses, both hardware and software, to create some his articles on the tech web — and the surprising way he uses the Messages app.

Apple has posted four short video tutorials on its YouTube channel. They provide basic tips for the iOS Camera app and shooting photos and videos with an iPhone.

Intel Corp execs say the company’s 5G modem chips won’t appear in mobile phones until 2020. So don’t look for the tech in 2019 iPhones.
