IDC: iPhone sales in China plummet due to high prices

iPhone sales in China fell 20% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2018, while sales for smartphones made by China-based Huawei soared by 23%, according to IDC.

The research group says Apple reported a 19.9% decline in shipments in China in the quarter. However, it climbed one place to No 4 in smartphone shipments in China after Xiaomi had an ever worse quarter. IDC blames Apple’s pricing for its problems.

“The imbalance between the increasingly severe domestic market environment and Apple’s high product unit price has led to the declines of iPhone shipments in Chinese market,” IDC said in the Chinese-language research report.
