San Francisco restaurants use Apple’s AR tech to offer holiday gifts

Restaurants throughout San Francisco are now offering complimentary holiday gifts via a new augmented reality feature from ChefsFeed, which provides ways to discover where to eat and drink based on the recommendations of professional chefs.

Anyone with the free ChefsFeed iPhone app for the iPhone can discover these gifts and acquire them by scanning the ChefsFeed window sticker (or logo printed on the menu) at participating restaurants. Gifts range from a spoonful of caviar to $100 in dining credit.

Here’s how it works:

  • Find participating restaurants by looking for the ChefsFeed tongue logo on the map in the “Hot Spots” section of the app. If you have location and push permissions enabled the app will send you a notification when you’re nearby.

  • At the restaurant, tap on the camera icon in the top right corner of the restaurant’s page (or the “Trending” section of the app).

  • Scan the ChefsFeed logo, which will either be on a ChefsFeed sticker on the window or printed on the menu, and your VIP gift will appear.

  • Your VIP gift will be stored in the “My Stuff” section of the app.

  • Show your server to redeem your gift. Be sure to review the terms and conditions (some gifts will only be available on certain times or days).

Participating restaurants include Tacolicious (all locations), Smitten (all locations), Media Noche, Corridor, Alba Ray’s, Barcino, Arlequin Cafe, Comstock Saloon, Uma Casa, E&O Kitchen and Bar, Marla Bakery, Hillside Supper Club, ROOH, and more.
