On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are this week’s picks.
macOS Apps/Updates
True North Software has introduced Station 2.0, a new version of their multilevel (hierarchical) launcher for macOS.
It’s designed to promote a more natural organization of applications and documents into folders. With nested folders, you can arrange items in Station in a way that fits your workflow. Version 2.0 adds panel sets, keyboard navigation, an auto hide switch global key, gesture scrolling, item separators, custom folder icons, auto sort panels, and a “skip confirmations” preference.
Station 2.0 requires macOS 10.11 or higher. It costs $14.99 and is available at the Mac App Store.
Mailbutler, which makes email productivity software for Apple Mail and Gmail, has released version 2.2 of its utility. It features Dark-Mode compatibility with macOS Mojave.
It also adds a new list of service integrations to third-party software, and a freshly redesigned Analytics Dashboard. Mailbutler’s plug-in brings functionalities of modern emailing back to users’ inbox, with time-saving tools such as snooze, send later, templates, signatures, tracking, and more.
Mailbutler 2.2 requires macOS 10.11 or higher. is available to download for free at www.mailbutler.io; it’s a freemium extension for Apple Mail and Gmail with three subscription plans available: a free “Essential” plan (30 limited actions); “Professional” ($7.45 per month, limited actions for Business features), and “Business” ($29 per month, unlimited features).
ProtectStar has updated iShredder Mac, their military grade data erasure tool, to version 2.0.10. it’s fully compatible with macOS Mojave and compliant with the European privacy legislation (GDPR)
Users can simply drag and drop files, folders, or drives to the app and press the “Shred” button. iShredder Mac then completely eliminates any chance for data reconstruction, even by government agencies, according to the folks at ProtectStar.
iShredder Mac requires macOS 10.11 or higher. The Professional Edition costs $19.90, and the Military Edition is $29.90. Both editions are available at the ProtectStar website.
Anthropics Technology has launched PortraitPro Body 3, an update of its photo editing software.
The full-length portrait editor includes automatic body selection, advanced tools for fixing warps, and intelligent tutorials among the main new features. It works as standalone software, as well as a smart filter for Adobe Photoshop and a regular plugin for Photoshop Elements and Lightroom.
PortraitPro Body is compatible with macOS 10.7 or later. It’s available in a PortraitPro Body edition ($39.95) and a PortraitPro Body Studio version ($59.95). Version 3 is a free upgrade for users of version versions.
Zevrix Solutions has announced BatchOutput DOC 2.5.6, a compatibility update to company’s output automation solution for Microsoft Word.
The utility automates printing and exporting of multiple Office documents to PDF. The software offers PDF security, image compression, variable file names, export as single pages, batch printing and other options. Version 2.5.6 introduces support for macOS Mojave.
BatchOutput DOC can be purchased for $19.95 from the Zevrix Solutions website and the Mac App Store. A demo is available for download. The update is free for users of version 2 and $20 from version 1. BatchOutput DOC requires macOS 10.6-10.14 and Microsoft Word 2008, 2011 or 2016.
iFunia Studio has posted a 5.2.1 update for its Free YouTube Downloader for Mac, which now convert YouTube to MP3 and download 2K, 4K, and 8K videos. The upgrade sports an improved 4K download function and some bug fixes.
iFunia Studio is a free download. There’s also a pro version available for $39.99.
Smile has released PDFpen and PDFpenPro 10.2, an update to its all-purpose PDF editing tools for macOS.
Users can add signatures, text, and images, make changes and correct typos, OCR scanned docs, fill out forms and more. You can mark up documents with highlighting, underscoring and strikethrough. Version 10.2 offers smoother scrolling with thumbnails appearing faster, support for Dark Mode in macOS Mojave, and 1600% maximum zoom.
PDFpen and PDFpen Pro 10.2 require macOS 10.12 or later. The former costs $74.95 for a single-user, $94.95 for a family pack (up to five computers), and $224.95 for an office pack. The latter is $124.95 for a single-user, $149.95 for a family pack (up to five computers), and $349.95 for an office pack. Site licenses are also available.
iOS Apps/Updates
Tap Empire, a hyper-casual idle gam, is now available. Players are tasked with taking down the evil business magnate Mr. Bossworth by creating a rival empire. Tap Empire is free, but does offer in-app purchases.
