A California federal judge has ruled that Corephotonics’ complaints “more than simply” alleged that Apple Inc. knew about the Israeli startup’s lens technology patents and infringed them in several iPhone, which means the legal battle will continue.
Corephotonics, an Israeli maker of dual-lens camera technologies for smartphones, filed a lawsuit against Apple in November 2017, alleging that the iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone 8 Plus infringe upon four of its patents. The patents relate to dual-lens camera technologies appropriate for smartphones, including optical zoom and a mini telephoto lens assembly.
Corephotonics describes itself as “the pioneer and worldwide market leader of dual camera technologies for mobile devices.” The company was established in 2012 by serial entrepreneurs Professor David Mendlovic, Dr. Gal Shabtay, Mr. Eran Kali, Dr. Noy Cohen and Mr. Ephraim Goldenberg. Corephotonics claims to be the first company to design, develop, and commercialize a “uniformly superior, uncompromising, next-generation zoom dual camera.”
