tvOS arrives with Dolby Atmos support and more

tvOS 12 has arrived with support for Dolby Atmos sound. If your Apple TV hasn’t already downloaded the update automatically, open the Settings app, choose System, Software Updates, then “Update Software.”

The 2017 tvOS update brought single sign-on to Apple TV; this year it’s Zero Sign On. If you’re getting broadband from the same company that provides your cable service, you don’t have to sign onto any of the stations on your set-top box.

The Apple TV will automatically know what channels you have access to. For iPhone owners, once the Apple TV remote app will automatically be added to Control Center. Passwords that have been saved in iPhone and iPad in iOS 12 are available for auto-fill on the Apple TV, as well.

Other improvements in tvOS 12 are compatibility with third-party remotes, new NASA screensavers, the ability to “find” other Apple devices, and a guest feature that presents a pairing code for people with an iOS device within a foot of the Siri Remote.

With the just-released iOS 12, users can securely AutoFill passwords from an iPhone and iPad to an Apple TV to easily sign in to Apple TV apps. The Apple TV Remote is automatically added to Control Center an iPhone or iPad for Apple TV users, giving users quick access to Apple TV controls. Home control systems like Control4, Crestron and Savant can be used to control Apple TV, including using Siri for voice search and control.
