Were you saddened when Apple announced in July that it was ending its photo print service? Don’t be. Motif, a new, free macOS extension from the company that’s been printing Apple’s photo books since 2005, fills the void just fine.
It’s a simple extension–native in Apple Photos–that helps create beautifully curated photo books, calendars, and cards. Motif intelligently selects your best photos and marks those that won’t print well, such as those with poor resolution and out-of-focus shots.
Image resolution, focus, emotion, chronology, duplicate removal, and more are used to pick your best images. You can spruce up your images via the interactive editing.
You can update text, typefaces, styles, and colors. You can make quick adjustments by dragging your Mac’s mouse. Other features include photobook auto-flow and auto-layout; interactive layouts; and subject centering and cropping.
Motif is easy to use and is very fast. The ability to drag the space between images and have everything resize is a great time-saver. Another great feature is the ability to preview different layouts of a page using the actual images on the page instead of bland gray boxes.
