Apple kills App Store affiliate program, screws small Apple websites

As if things aren’t hard enough for many Apple websites, Apple today announced that since they’re doing such a bang-up job of selling apps through the redesigned macOS and iOS app stores (well, macOS is in beta…), they’re going to screw affiliates who make money by linking to apps. Guess what? We’re one of those affiliates. Here’s the email from the powers-that-be in Cupertino:

Apple prides itself on the fact that it makes “billions of dollars” for developers, something that CEO Tim Cook touted during yesterday’s Q3 earnings call. But apparently it can’t afford to spend a few bucks to help support the websites that do their best to give the company good press. AWT doesn’t make a lot of money off of affiliate sales from Apple, but it’s enough to make a difference.
