Hey, Apple, we need new iMacs and 12-inch MacBooks for the back-to-school season

Apple has launched its annual Back to School promotion in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and in many European and Asian countries. Education customers who order certain Macs or iPad Pros can get Beats headphones for free along with their education discount. But where are the updated 12-inch MacBook Pros and iMacs?

The all-in-ones were last updated last June (not counting the iMac Pro, which debuted in December). The MacBooks haven’t been revamped in over a year, as well.

I’m not sure how many iMacs are sold to schools, but I suspect that the 12-inch MacBooks sell well in the education market — better than the MacBook Pro line (which was revamped on July 12). So I’d expect the small laptop to be upgraded soon, along with the rumored MacBook Air revamp — if Apple actually plans such a product (which I’m dubious about).

Updated MacBooks and iMacs or not, Apple’s Back to School promo is available to anyone who qualifies for Apple education pricing, which includes students, teachers, and college and university employees, among other people eligible to buy from the store. It applies to purchases made through Apple’s online Education store, Apple’s retail outlets, over the phone via 1-800-MY-APPLE (in the U.S.), and some campus stores.
