Deloitte has integrated its ConvergeHEALTH Patient Connect product with Apple HealthKit, CareKit and ResearchKit frameworks, enabling patients to improve adherence to treatment plans while supporting connectivity to clinical research. ConvergeHEALTH is a group of products engineered and built by Deloitte to enable life sciences clients to respond to the shift to value-based, personalized medicine.
HealthKit is the accompanying developer application programming interface (API) included in the iOS SDK (Software Development Kit) for the Mac. It is used by software developers to design applications that have extensibility and that can interact with the Health application on iOS.
CareKit is a tool for assisting people in taking an active role in their care. iPhone apps using the kit make it easier for individuals to keep track of care plans and monitor symptoms and medication; providing insights that help people better understand their own health. With the ability to share information with doctors, nurses or family members, CareKit apps help people take a more active role in their health.
ResearchKit turns an iPhone into a tool for medical research by helping doctors, scientists and other researchers gather data more frequently and more accurately from participants anywhere in the world using iPhone apps. Participants enrolled in these app-based studies can review an interactive informed consent process, easily complete active tasks or submit survey responses, and choose how their health data is shared with researchers, making contributions to medical research easier than ever.
Deloitte is also expanding its Apple practice, a dedicated team of health care app developers in the Deloitte Digital studios This team of UI, UX and iOS engineers will specialize in developing health care-specific digital apps to “transform the patient experience,” says Mike Brinker, global Deloitte Digital leader and principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP.
According to recent publications, digitally connected patient-centric platforms can improve the patient experience and possibly outcomes. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and their associated apps are playing an increasingly impactful role in improving patient lives by making health data available to their caregivers and, ultimately, for future research and innovation. By integrating with ConvergeHEALTH Patient Connect, life sciences innovators have an opportunity to engage and support patients in new ways, says Brinker.
