Charitybuzz says it will auction one of the first original Apple computers: the “Duston 2” Apple-1. Created by Steve “Woz” Wozniak and Steve Jobs in 1976, only 200 were hand-constructed and just 60-70 Apple-1 computers exist today.
The online auction is live from June 6 – June 21, 2018, at http://charitybuzz.com/apple1 . A portion of the proceeds will go to the Foundation for Amateur International Radio Service (FAIRS).
This s the fundraising platform’s third Apple-1 campaign. In 2016, the Charitybuzz “Celebration” Apple-1 auction resulted in a hammer price of $815,000. The “Schoolsky” Apple-1 auction in 2017 sold for $400,001.
The Apple-1 computer was built in Job’s parents’ home in Los Altos, California. more than 40 years ago, and is an operational original from the Byte-Shop (stock number 01-0060), one of the world’s first computer stores and the first retailer to sell an Apple computer.
The computer was then acquired by Adam Duston of Naperville, Ill. in August 1996, and was dubbed the “Duston 2” Apple-1 computer. David Larson, former Virginia Tech professor, is the current owner of the “Duston 2” Apple-1 computer. David was the owner of the “Schoolsky” Apple I, which was also put up for auction last year with Charitybuzz, with select proceeds going to charity. David has one of the most prolific, single-owner Apple computer collections in the world.
