Apple has ordered 10 episodes of a drama series about pre-teen investigative reporter Hilde Lysiak, reports Variety.
Here’s a summary of the still-untitled series, which is based on the true story of Lysiak’s reporting: “The series follows a young girl who moves from Brooklyn to the small lakeside town her father left behind. While there, her dogged pursuit of the truth leads her to unearth a cold case that everyone in town, including her own father, tried hard to bury.”
The series is created and executive produced by Dana Fox and Dara Resnik. Joy Gorman Wettels and Sharlene Martin also executive produce. Jon M. Chu will direct and executive produce. The series is produced by Anonymous Content and Paramount Television.
Lysiak is an American journalist and author who also publishes a local newspaper in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, the Orange Street News. Here experiences went viral in April 2016, when she broke a story on a local homicide. Her story was picked up by The Washington Post and The Guardian, among other outlets.
Lysiak has signed a deal with Scholastic publishing to co-write four books with her father, Matthew Lysiak. The series will be called “Hilde Cracks the Case.” The books’ main characters will be based on Lysiak and her sister and photographer, Izzy, with fictionalized versions of real stories that Lysiak has written.
This will be Apple’s 16th scripted series. Upcoming original programming titles include “Amazing Stores,” “Are You Sleeping,” “Home,” “Little America,” “See,” “Swagger,” an untitled Damien Chazelle drama, an untitled Reese Witherspoon/Jennifer Anniston dreamed, “Dickinson” (a half-hour comedy starring Hailee Stenifeld), an untitled Ronald D. Moore drama, an untitled M. Night Shyamalan thriller series, a TV series adaption of “Foundation,” the Isaac Asimov science fiction novel trilogy, and a half-hour dramedy “Little Voices” from producers J.J. Abrams and Sara Bareille.
