Apple has been granted a patent involving its current and future iPhone and iPad stands. Patent number 9,966,984 is for a “device case with a balanced hinge” that provides some amount of torsional force that would allow an iPhone or iPad to be angled “at an almost unlimited number of angles relative to a surface on which the computing device is resting.”
Flexible elements in the case can resist the static and dynamic loads of the computing device. The would allow the Apple device to receive touch inputs at almost any angle without causing the case and the computing device to collapse.
Of course, Apple files for — and is granted — lots of patents by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Many are for inventions that never see the light of day. However, you never can tell which ones will materialize in a real product.
