Here’s an amazing milestone: Apple today announced that all of its worldwide facilities are powered with 100 percent clean, renewable energy. This figure includes facilities in 43 countries around the world. Apple CEO Tim Cook said that the company is “committed to leaving the world better than we found it.”
Apple has invested in and constructed renewable energy facilities all around the globe, including solar arrays, wind farms, micro-hydrogeneration systems, biogas fuel cells, and energy storage technologies. The company has 25 operational renewable energy projects, generating 626 megawatts of capacity. 286 megawatts of solar photovoltaic generation came online in 2017, and the company is building or investing in 15 more projects that will bring its total to 1.4 gigawatts of generation when finished.
In addition to Apple, the total number of suppliers who have committed to using clean energy has now risen to 23. New suppliers that have signed up include Quanta Computer, Pegatron, and Finisar.
