Apple Daily Report for March 9, 2018

The AWT News Update is on hiatus while my compadre, Steve, takes a road trip. In its place, I’ll offer a text-only (no podcast) summary of breaking stories with a tip o’ my hat to my former website, Apple Daily Report.

Comments made during Apple supplier Finisar’s most recent earnings report suggest the company, which provides vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser modules for iPhone X’s TrueDepth system, is prepping for the technology to be included in multiple iPhones rumored to debut later this year. 

Norman Winarsky, one of Siri’s creators says he’s surprised at what the personal digital assistant still can’t do. Part of this is because, pre-Apple, Winarsky said, Siri was intended to launch specifically as a travel and entertainment concierge. 

This isn’t going to happen, but pundit Alex Webb, writing for Bloomberg, thinks Apple should buy Aston Martin.

According to sister publications The Paper and Sixth Tone, an Apple customer identified as “Qin” attempted to close his iCloud account ahead of the government takeover, only to have an AppleCare advisor argue with him, hack his account, and threaten to expose his personal information to teach him a lesson.

The fight to reverse the Federal Communications Commission’s changes that end net neutrality protection is headed to the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court in San Francisco.

Apple’s share price has closed at a new all-time high, ending the trading day at $179.98, exceeding the previous record closing price of $179.26.
