Apple Daily Report for March 13, 2018

The AWT News Update is on hiatus while my compadre, Steve, takes a road trip. In its place, I’ll offer a text-only (no podcast) summary of breaking stories with a tip o’ my hat to my former website, Apple Daily Report.

A unit of Apple’s Taiwanese contract manufacturer Wistron Corp. has won approval will build a new assembly facility in the south Indian state, signaling a potential expansion of iPhone assembly work in India.

MoviePass CEO Mitch Lowe now says he misspoke at a recent industry conference in describing the kinds of data the company tracks on its users — and he emphasized that the startup will always allow customers to opt in to location-based marketing offers in the future.

The $200 Early, Early Bird discount for the FileMaker Developer Conference 2018 expires this Thursday, March 15. This year FileMaker DevCon takes place Aug.6-9, 2018 in Dallas Texas. Attendees can choose from more than 80 sessions ranging from beginner topics to advanced level sessions. 

AltConf has announced details for its week-long event. This year’s AltConf will feature two speaker tracks, two community labs and some special plans for podcasters.

Apple CEO Tim Cook was spotted in Capitol Hill where he reportedly lunched with Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.), the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee who has taken an interest in digital encryption and privacy. 

Apple is further expanding beta testing of its “Apple Music for Artists” dashboard the company announced via a tweet.
