In a note to clients — as noted by AppleInsider — Cowen and Company analyst Karl Ackerman says production for the iPhone X has met expectations but may drop lower than anticipated. He adds that a revamped iPhone SE is likely, but not guaranteed.
Ackerman projects that 53 million iPhone X units were built in the first quarter of 2018, which is “largely in line” with an estimate made 30 days ago, suggesting the production would produce 52.5 million units. The analyst forecasts that 42.5 million Apple smartphone units will be produced in the second quarter. This includes nine million iPhone X units, but is down overall from Cowen and Company’s preliminary estimate of between 13 and 16 million units.
Regarding an iPhone SE 2, Ackerman says that Apple has apparently planned a second generation of the smartphone, but that the tech giant hasn’t made a firm commitment to launch such a device.
According to the Sellers Research Group (that’s me), we will see a second gen iPhone SE in the fall. It will have a bigger display (4.2 inches), an A10 processor, Touch ID (but not Face ID), plus 2GB of RAM. The smartphone will come in 32GB and 128GB storage options.
