Boy, the analysts have been busy today. In a note to clients — as noted by AppleInsider — Barclays in London, says Apple and its partners are “working hard on a world-facing solution” capable of scanning surroundings in 3D, similar to what the TrueDepth system does for a user’s face.
The British multinational bank and financial services company claims that development is ongoing, and lots of details must be hammered out before it’s included in any 2019 iPhones. Barclays believes Apple “remains fully committed” to dive into that aspect in other hardware offerings beyond just the iPhone.
As the TrueDepth sensor hardware expands to other Apple devices, the firm expects that Apple will open up ARKit even more over time, to encompass the expansion of the technology. At the 2017 Worldwide Developer Conference, Apple introduced ARKit. It allows developers to tap into the latest computer vision technologies to build detailed virtual content on top of real-world scenes for interactive gaming, immersive shopping experiences, industrial design and more.
