Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft and other companies are urging the Trump administration to preserve a program that allows the spouses of some high-skilled immigrants to work in the U.S., reports Recode.
“We represent employers who are committed to growing the U.S. economy and creating jobs for American workers. However, we cannot achieve these goals unless companies can recruit and retain the most qualified employees,” the companies say via a statement by their Washington, D.C.-based lobbying groups, including the Information Technology Industry Council.
Our country grants work visas to skilled immigrants who offer value to U.S. companies. Under an amendment introduced under the Obama administration, such worker’s spouses are also offered work permits to make a move to the U.S. more practical. The Trump administration wants to reverse, denying work permits to spouses.
Apple has previously spoken out against other Trump immigration changes, including ending the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which protects immigrants brought into the U.S illegally as children from deportation.
