BetterUnderarchiver is a bit beefier the macOS’s built-in utility

By Aaron Lee

It’s not for everyone, but Cisdem’s BetterUnarchiver archive manager app may be more useful for some folks than the regular archiver that comes with macOS.

It allows users to compress and decompress archive files. BetterUnarchiver supports unzipping files like Zip, 7z, Rar, ISO, Tar, Cab, Wim, xz, CHM, com, Hfs, Nsis, Udf, and more.

Users can preview files inside an archive before unzipping it. BetterUnarchiver also lets you archive or create password protected zipped files on your Mac.

The tool supports unzipping files in batch and the extraction of multi-volume archive files. It also supports character encoding when extracting files (non-ASCII file names will be displayed correctly).

With BetterUnarchiver. you can compress files to Zip, 7z, and Tar. You can also create password protected 7z and Zip files on Mac for safer transmitting.

BetterUnarchiver is available now through the Cisdem website. A demo version available on the site also allows any user without a license to have a try with the app. Pricing is normally $14.99 for a single license, $29.99 for a two-Mac license, and $49.99 for a five-Mac license. A demo is available for download.
