iPhone X users on reddit and the MacRumors forums have found that their smartphones immediately refuse to recognize some touch input when exposed to cool outdoor temperatures. There’s a software bug causing the issue, which Apple says will be addressed in an upcoming update. Apple issued this statement to The Loop:

“We are aware of instances where the iPhone X screen will become temporarily unresponsive to touch after a rapid change to a cold environment. After several seconds the screen will become fully responsive again. This will be addressed in an upcoming software update.”
