Notable apps and app updates for Oct. 17, 2017

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

iOS Apps/Updates

FreneticGamez has introduced Golf Maestro 1.0. In the free app, you play through the different golf courses with one touch control, unlock color, trails and other styles for your golf balls. You’ll face different kinds of challenges, play on grass, sand, in the middle of the night and even on some crazy adventure golf courses. The game consists of six courses with various numbers of holes in different locations.

macOS Apps/Updates

True North Software has released Station 1.4, an update of their multilevel (hierarchical) launcher for macOS. 

With nested folders, you can arrange items in Station in a way that fits your workflow. In version 1.4, scalability is greatly increased through logical groupings , increasing the sheer number of items that can be added to the app without having to shrink the launcher size.

In the preferences of Station 1.4, you can specify if you want the software to justify the panels to the left, center, or right. Also, a “Populate Folder Icons” menu item was added to the Station icon, allowing you to automatically populate folder icons.

Station 1.4 requires macOS 10.11 or higher and costs $14.99. It’s available at the Mac App Store; a demo version is available from the True North website.

Zevrix Solutions has announced BatchOutput DOC 2.5.4, a compatibility update to company’s output automation solution for Microsoft Word. 

The software automates printing and exporting of multiple Word documents to PDF. It offers PDF security, image compression, variable file names, export as single pages and other options. Version 2.5.4 makes BatchOutput DOC a 64-bit program and introduces support for macOS High Sierra.

BatchOutput DOC can be purchased for $19.95 from the Zevrix Solutions website(www.zevrixcom). A demo is available for download. The update is free for users of version 2 and $20 from version 1. BatchOutput DOC requires macOS 10.6-10.13 and Microsoft Word 2008, 2011 or 2016.

Andrei Doubrovski has rolled out Elements+ 10, an update of his enhancement patch for Adobe Photoshop Elements. 

Featuring hundreds of tools, including missing adjustments, smart filters, and more, it’s an add-on that unlocks the undocumented advanced functions in Photoshop Elements+ featured in the latest versions of Photoshop. Version 10 includes some extra adjustments, smart filters, vector masks, and many more advanced tools normally hidden under the hood.

Elements+ 10 requires macOS 10.4.11 or later and costs $12. A demo is available for download.

ProtectStar has upgraded Camera Guard 2 Professional, a security solution for macOS, to version 2. 

The app was created to protect any Mac’s webcam and microphone against access by hackers, spyware, or malware. Version 2 brings improved protection against unauthorized access to the Mac’s hardware; it also offers protection against Mac ransomware which can hold hostage the data on a Mac’s hard drive.

Camera Guard 2 Professional requires macOS 10.11 or higher. It costs $29.90 and includes 12 months of updates and tech support. A “Care Plan” is also available for $59.90 and includes three years of updates/upgrades and premium technical support.
