The second day of the Jamf Nation User Convention (JNUC) kicked off with the second keynote session focusing on user identity security, Apple use in healthcare, device choice in the workplace, and “Apple plus Jamf” in education.
The session began with a video from Simplifeye demonstrating how Simplifeye with Jamf and Apple provides efficiency and connectivity for healthcare providers.
Following opening remarks, Jamf CEO Dean Hager welcomed Microsoft’s corporate vice president Brad Anderson to the stage to discuss better security protection. Anderson explained how security parameters for enterprise have changed and stated that organizations have to move from a parameter based security model to an identity based security model. With identity being common across all user devices, that is the place where everything is being attacked. Anderson stated that identity is the most important element of security protection.
Anderson further explained how Jamf’s integrated solution with Microsoft’s Enterprise Mobility + Security (EMS) works to provide automated compliance management for Mac devices accessing applications set up with Azure AD authentication.
Hager stated that Jamf uses Office 365 and will be implementing the solution themselves. Anderson said that Microsoft likewise uses Jamf.
To introduce the next part of the keynote, Hager referenced a presentation made by Fletcher Previn (IBM) at the 2016 JNUC and showed a video clip (available on Jamf’s website) where Previn talked about IBM starting to offer Mac as a choice in the workplace.
Martin Lang, Vice President Enterprise Mobility IT Services for SAP; Ryan Kremkau, Director of Engineering for Capital One; Miles Leacy, Technical Expert for Apple for Walmart; and Jeremy Butcher, Worldwide Product Marketing for MacOS and iOS for Apple were called to the stage to discuss how SAP, Capital One, and Walmart are or will be offering device choice in the workplace. Lang, Kremkau, and Leacy addressed why each of their companies have made the decision to offer the choice of device in the workplace. Leacy projects that Walmart will be using around 100,000 Macs by this time next year.
Lang also explained why Apple TV is being implemented as a part of productivity at SAP.
Butcher asked each participant questions concerning their needs from Apple for their companies and how Macs are being used. He also encouraged them to “keep pushing forward.”
To demonstrate Apple with Jamf use in healthcare the audience was shown a video from UC San Diego Jacobs Medical Center where iOS is being used to transform healthcare.
Jamf’s Jeni Asaba led the panel discussion about Apple with Jamf use in healthcare. The panel included James Rafel, Geisinger Health; Christine Edwards, Bungie Foundation; and Paul Julius, Orthology.
Jamf’s Dave Saltmarsh led the panel discussion about Apple with Jamf use in education. The panel included Ashley Heagy, Pequea Valley School District; Kathryn Francis, Orchard STEM School; and Taylor Bell, Maryville University.
