IKEA delays Trådfri Smart Lighting HomeKit support after buggy update

Remember IKEA’s promise to bring HomeKit and Amazon Alexa support to its Trådfri Smart Lighting line back in August? Well, the company started rolling out an update yesterday to add that support…only to pull it when many users reported technical difficulties in getting the automation connectivity to work.

IKEA originally stated in May of 2017 that the lighting products would support HomeKit, and there was another false start in August when the company told customers that things were ready to go…only to pull that news soon after. The company has apologized for the inconvenience to customers while it prepares a new update that will hopefully fix the remaining issues.

For now, Trådfri owners can use Philips Hue smart hubs to control the lights from smartphones.
