AWT TV Episode 23: October 3, 2017

Welcome to AWT TV, a weekly show featuring Steve Sande, Dennis Sellers and Marty Edwards of Apple World Today. Each week we’ll discuss what’s happened in the world of Apple, talk about new apps and accessories, maybe even have a demonstration or two of the latest software.

Starting off tonight’s episode, Steve apologizes for spacing out last week’s episode… that’s the problem with getting old. 🙂

But the big discussions have to do with several new Apple products. Marty starts off with the Apple TV 4K, which he bought…and returned. The device works well with Apple content, but as he noted, it had a tendency to take other content at lower resolutions and do a poor job of upscaling it to 4K, making the images almost unwatchable.

Steve discussed the Apple Watch Series 3, which (if you’ve read his online review) is a solid improvement over the original Apple Watch. We discuss the cellular capabilities of the watch, the speed of it, and the incredible battery life.

Steve demonstrates a couple of new iOS apps; the first is a Sudoku game from Easybrain that’s free for the trying and $3.99 if you want to rid your life of annoying pop-up and banner ads. It’s a very challenging game and even has a Daily Challenge mode to really keep you on your toes. The other apps are from this week’s sponsor, It’s About Time Products — the Color Text Bubbles and WordSwipe iMessage apps.

The discussion also veers in the direction of how iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra are working. Steve hasn’t see issues with iOS 11; Marty is seeing a lot of issues with text not being centered in apps, but otherwise likes the update — especially the new iOS 11 Control Center.

AWT TV broadcasts live most Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM PT / 9:30 PM ET here on the Apple World Today YouTube channel. If you enjoy the show, please share it with friends, give us a Like “thumbs-up”, and subscribe to the Apple World Today YouTube channel.
