Samsung saw its share of China’s smartphone market drop in the second quarter, while Apple claimed the top spot. According to the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), Chinese customers owned 48 million Samsung cellphones as of the end of June, while 171 million owned iPhones.
Chinese brands, including Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi, ranked second to fifth, according to KITA (http://m.yna.co.kr/mob2/en/contents_en.jsp?cid=AEN20170906008200320), with 132 million, 124 million, Vivo with 108 million and Xiamoi, respectively. Samsung placed sixth on the list.
Premium phones worth 4,000 yuan or more accounted for only 6.4% of the total second-quarter smartphone sales, with iPhones taking up an overwhelming majority, according to KITA. Nearly 63% of phones sold in the Chinese market in the quarter were low- and mid-end products with a price tag of less than 2,000 yuan (about US$305.60).
