An iPhone upgrade ‘supercycle’ seems to be coming

A survey of three dozen Asian companies that supply Apple shows shipments are already way up. “Initial launch volumes are up 10-15% year over year,” Longbow Research says in a note to clients.

In other words, Apple’s orders to its suppliers exceed the demand for iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. Google search trends also indicate an iPhone “supercycle” may be on its way, notes Business Insider. The supercycle theory suggests many iPhone users have phones that are more than two years old, and will upgrade en masse for the new phone in a “huge wave, akin to the experience with iPhone 6,” the article says.
