On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.
iOS Apps/Updates
The Google Earth app has been updated to support 64-bit iPhones and iPads. The free app allows you to “fly” through landmarks and cities like London, Tokyo and Rome in 3D, then dive in to experience them first hand with Street View.
macOS Apps/Updates
SpriTec Software has revved SuperTab, its utility app for macOS, to version 3.0.
The tool enhances and extends the Mac’s built-in Command-Tab app switcher, providing additional access to files, folders, websites, calendars, windows, clipboards, Dock items and more. Version 3.0 adds item name overlays and calendar events.
With SuperTab’s ability to display folders, files and many other items in the App Switcher, it had become difficult to easily identify identical looking items. By adding the option to overlay the names of these items directly atop their icons, SuperTab 3.0 has now made identifying and working with these items much more intuitive and simple.
SuperTab 3.0 also makes viewing upcoming Calendar Events as easy as activating the App Switcher. Users can configure the Date Range to display, choose which Calendars to include Events from, and can hover the mouse over any Event to see its full details.
SuperTab 3.0 is compatible with macOS 10.8 and higher. It’s free to download and install and is fully functional for 30 days. After 30 days, it remains functional, but will occasionally ask users to register. Users can take advantage of a special 50%-off sale price of $10through Sept. 30. Users of earlier versions of SuperTab can upgrade to 3.0 for $2.99.
AKVIS has released AKVIS LightShop 6.0, an update of its app for adding light effects to images. The new version adds a Sparkle Brush that scatters light spots of different shapes, colors, and sizes. Also, a new gray interface theme is now available.
On the Mac platform, AKVIS LightShop 6 runs on macOS 10.7 and higher. It’s available as a standalone application and as a plug-in to photo editors such asAliveColors by AKVIS, Adobe Photoshop, and others.
AKVIS LightShop 6.0 Home sells for $72, Deluxe for $99, and Business for $185. One license key allows activating and using the software on two computers. Version 6.0 is a free upgrade for recent buyers as well for those who bought “1 Year of Updates” during the last 12 months. Users whose license isn’t valid for the new version can get LightShop 6.0 for $14.95. A demo is available for download.
Zevrix Solutions has announced PDF Checkpoint 1.8, a feature update to company’s PDF preflight and conversion solution.
The app automatically preflights, saves as images, splits and optimizes multiple PDF files. The software can also convert PDF colors and helps users easily prepare files for print, web and mobile devices. Version1.8 lets users open PDF files with an app of their choice, change the default PDF editor, and improves handling of drag-and-drop processing.
PDF Checkpoint can be purchased on the Mac App Store and Zevrix website for $39.95. The update is free to licensed users. A demo is available for download. PDF Checkpoint requires macOS 10.7 or higher.
