NetMarketShare: macOS and iOS market share down in July

According to the latest market share survey from NetMarketShare, the market share for both macOS and iOS was down last month.

According to the report, among desktop operating systems, macOS had 6.02% of the global market share in July, down from from 6.12% percent in June (that’s global market share; in the U.S. it’s over 13%). April 2016’s 9.2% was an all-time high, according to NetMarketShare’s measurements. Windows remains dominant with 91.45% as of July.

iOS had 33.09% of the mobile operating system market share in July, down from 43.95% in June. This compares to 64.38% for Android, 0.9% for Windows Phone, and 0.64% for Java ME. The all-time high for iOS was in July 2012 with 65.94%.

NetMarketShares’ monthly surveys don’t measure market share in terms of computer systems sold. Instead they sample data from visitors to some 40,000 web sites operated by their clients. And note that NetMarketShare’s numbers don’t equate to sales.
