Apple sold an estimated 3.98 million Mac laptops in the second quarter of the 2017 calendar year for a quarter-on-quarter increase of 17.1%, according to TrendForce. The tech giant now ties for fifth place among the top global notebook brands, notes the market research firm.
The updated 12-inch MacBook helped expanded MacBook shipments by 17.1% from the first quarter to 3.98 million units. TrendForce also anticipates a double-digit sequential growth for third-quarter MacBook shipments as Apple will focus on the MacBook Pro series during the year’s second half.
The top five laptop companies for the first half of 2017 are HP (23.4% market share), Lenovo (20.1% market share), Dell (16.4% market share), Apple and ASUS with 10% market share each. TrendForce says the global notebook shipments for this second quarter registered a sequential quarterly increase of 5.7% and a year-on-year increase of 3.6%, totaling 39.96 million units.
