Notable apps and app updates for June 5, 2017

On a regular basis, Apple World Today posts a list of notable new apps or app updates that have been released. They may not necessarily be new, but they’re popular and deserve mention. Here are today’s picks.

macOS Apps/Updates

AirBeamTV has introduced Mirror for Fire TV, their new screen mirroring solution for macOS.

It allows you to mirror the screen and audio of your Mac to an Amazon Fire TV. Screen mirroring (sometimes called screen casting) allows you to see the screen of your Mac, or any external display connected to your Mac, on your TV.

Mirror for Fire TV requires macOS 10.10 or higher. It costs $8.99 and is available at the Mac App Store. To use sound as well as video, Mac App Store users need to install a separate audio driver, which can be downloaded free from the AirBeamTV website.

Paragon Software Group (PSG) has released Paragon NTFS for Mac 15, an update of the multilingual software utility that eliminates the boundaries between macOS and Windows operating systems by delivering full read and write access to Windows-formatted drives under macOS. 

The 15th edition ships with a new engine that guarantees advanced support of the latest NTFS file systems, such as Windows 10 system compression and provides ever faster, more transparent access to NTFS partitions under macOS, according to the folks at NTFS. All product options and functionality, including information on mounted volumes, system startup, and verification are now accessed conveniently from the Mac menu bar in Finder. The user interface can also be switched between light and dark themes depending upon the user’s preference.

Paragon NTFS for Mac 15 supports all operating systems from OS X to macOS 10.12. It’s available for download for $19.95; a demo is available for download. For existing Paragon NTFS for Mac 14 users, the upgrade is available at no charge.

DEVONtechnologies has updated all editions of DEVONthink and DEVONagent for the Mac. Version 2.9.12 adds a menu command for copying items links for databases as well as support for flat OmniOutliner 5 files. 

Other documents can be easier referenced from Markdown documents and images zoomed or rotated using gestures. DEVONagent 3.9.7 sends all requests to Google and Bing over secure connections and adds a new options for more precise see-also results. All updates are free and recommended for all users.

All editions of DEVONthink and DEVONagent require macOS10.9 or later. They can be downloaded from DEVONtechnologies online and be test-driven for free before they need to be properly licensed. DEVONthink Personal as well as all editions of DEVONagent are also available in the Mac App Store; DEVONthink can be purchased in bundles with DEVONagent for bundle prices in DEVONtechnologies’ online shop.

Zevrix Solutions has announced BatchOutput DOC 2.5.2, a feature update to company’s output automation solution for Microsoft Word. 

The utility solves the problem of printing and saving of multiple documents to PDF and offers batch processing, PDF security, image compression, variable file names and other options. Version 2.5.2 ensures that BatchOutput DOC restores the system’s default printer after the processing of Word files is done if this option is selected in the Mac system preferences.

BatchOutput DOC can be purchased for $19.95from the Zevrix Solutions website. A demo is available for download. The update is free for users of version 2 and $20 from version 1. BatchOutput DOC requires macOS 0.6-10.12 and Microsoft Word 2008, 2011 or 2016.
