Foxconn CEO: Apple is in on the bid for Toshiba’s semiconductor biz

Foxconn CEO Terry Gou confirms last week’s news that Apple that will join its bid for Toshiba Corp’s semiconductor business. He says saying that Apple’s board and CEO Tim Cook have signed off on the deal, though he didn’t specify financial details.

Gau says Amazon is close to joining and includes Microsoft, Cisco Systems, and Google among the list of potentially interested investors.

Toshiba hopes to choose a chip unit winner on June 15 if the legal fight with Western Digital doesn’t interfere.

Toshiba is spinning-off its core memory chip business and seeking outside investors in it. Apple could be interested as the move would allow it to lock in memory technology for its iPhone and other products.
