Apple’s Siri design patent updated, adds smart glasses, ability to make hotel reservations

We’re all hoping that sometime today we’ll hear about a new Siri speaker of some sort, but Patently Apple discovered something even more interesting. The design patent for Siri in the European Union and Hong Kong was updated last Friday to cover “smart glasses” as a category of what devices Siri can be used as a remote control for.

There is a list of devices on the design patent that contains a “remote control for” category, and “smart glasses” are now included in that list. Siri can be used with OpenTable to make restaurant reservations, but at this point there’s no way to make hotel reservations. According to the Patently Apple findings, hotel reservations are now covered under the design patent, meaning that users may soon find that Siri works with at least one third-party app to provide the ability to book a room.

In addition, Apple also received two new design patents for Siri icons; one that is round — like a Home button — and another that looks like a standard iOS / macOS app icon.
