Apple hires Stanford Medicine’s digital health leader

Apple is hiring Stanford Medicine’s digital health leader, Dr. Sumbul Desai, according to Internet Health Management.

She headed up Stanford’s Center for Digital Health, which the Stanford University School of Medicine launched in January 2017.

The goal of the center is to enhance Stanford’s digital health initiatives via collaboration with digital technology companies, clinical research and education. Stanford has close ties to Apple, notes Internet Health Management.

Along the same lines, Apple is working with a start-up called Health Gorilla in its secretive personal health record initiative, reports CNBC, quoting unnamed sources. Health Gorilla specializes in aggregating diagnostic information, such as blood work, into one place.

Those unnamed sources say the start-up Health Gorilla is specifically working with Apple to add diagnostic data to the iPhone, including blood work, by integrating with hospitals, lab-testing companies such as Quest and LabCorp and imaging centers.
