Normally, new iPhones launch around September. However, a report from the Chinese language site, Economic Daily News (as noted by MacRumors.com), says the “iPhone 8” may not arrive until October or November because suppliers are encountering “technical issues” because of differences in the display lamination process and challenges involved in integrating the 3D sensing front camera system.
The Sellers Research Firm (that’s me) says that this rumor makes sense. And I think we’d all rather that Apple take time to get the new smartphone just right instead of trying to meet an arbitrary deadline.
Also, in regards to the next generation iPhone (shown in a fanciful mock-up), that have been rumors that it will cost upwards of $1,000. However, in a note to clients — as noted by 9to5Mac — UBS analyst Steven Milunovich believes that a base 64GB model could start at $850 to $900 in the U.S. at price point would be similar to Samsung’s new Galaxy S8+, which starts at $840 to $850. Of course, models with more storage will almost certainly top $1,000.
